Living wages stipulated in the Minimum Wages Act of 1948.
The living wage, as defined by the Fair Wage Committee in their report published by the Government of India's Ministry of Labour Court in 1949, is intended to empower male earners to support themselves and their families with more than just the basic necessities of food, clothing, and shelter. It should also encompass modest comforts, such as:-
- Education for children.
- Protection against ill health.
- Requirement of essential social needs.
- Insurance for old age.
